Portland Marathon (mostly photo) Re-cap

Night before race, outfit preparation (aka running mini me).

Pre-race photo op... so cold I resorted to the (unused) hotel room trash bag for an extra layer.

At the start line.

A top the St. John's Bridge.

Taking a break with Joe.

Another break with Jeff and Asher.

The cutest middle school girls handing out roses to all the finishers.

The SF/Marin Summer TNT team!

Admittedly, I was not prepared for this race. Frankly, I ran weekly and did the long distance runs as recommended, but skipped most mid-week short runs and strength training. In the end, I paid for it.

Though we made it to the finish line, my body hated me and I was in pain like I hadn't experienced before. In short, it takes more than just running the distance runs... you have to put in the short endurance runs and strength training too. I suppose the same can be said of life, something like checking in with those you care about on birthdays and holidays but neglecting to connect in between... after a while, your relationship suffers.

I am newly inspired to check in (and run) more often.

Happy running :)
